Day 9 Update: Injection Day and Observations

Today marked the day for my second dose of 0.25 in the Wegovy trial, which meant adhering to the overnight fasting requirement due to the blood work involved in the trial. The day began earlier than usual for me to make it to the appointment on time. At this check-in, I was weighed, and the scale showed 97.1 kg (213.6 lbs). This indicates a reduction of 2.9 kg (6.4 lbs) from my starting weight of 100 kg (220 lbs). While it's encouraging to see this decrease, it's important to remember that body weight naturally fluctuates for various reasons. However, considering my reduced calorie intake and consistent exercise routine, some degree of weight loss is to be expected. I chose to skip the gym today, opting instead to rest up for a game of football scheduled for tomorrow. It's important to balance exercise with adequate rest, especially considering the changes my body is undergoing during this trial. Post-injection, I've noticed some mild stomach upset, but it hasn't be...

Day 8 Reflections: Steady Progress and a Shift in Routine

Image
Today was largely consistent with the previous days in terms of side effects and appetite – no major changes to report there. I had an indoor football session that lasted an hour and it turned out quite well. Interestingly, I noticed a change in my performance – I wasn't running as much as usual, but I felt lighter and more agile, which made me feel more dynamic on the field. Overall, I played well, but around the 45-minute mark, I experienced a dip in intensity, possibly due to low blood sugar, a pattern I've observed recently. There's been a slight adjustment in the trial schedule. My injection day has moved from Tuesdays to Wednesdays, which required me to fast from midnight. Given my increased hunger at night, especially after playing football, I decided to eat as much as I could before the fasting period began. My goal was to avoid struggling to fall asleep or waking up hungry in the middle of the night. This adjustment in my trial routine and managing my eating schedu...

Day 7 Update: Dietary Adjustments and Weight Trends

This morning started with a nutritious and enjoyable breakfast of yoghurt, honey, and rolled oats. I find this combination to be fresh, tasty, and filling, and it is a new addition to my diet. Interestingly, this change was inspired by a recent podcast I listened to about the dietary benefits of yoghurt, and it aligns well with my current food preferences. Today, I've noticed that my hunger isn't as suppressed as it has been on previous days. It's more of a subtle presence in the back of my mind, rather than a persistent urge. In terms of weight, today's weigh-in showed a slight increase to 97.7 kg (215 lbs). While there's a small uptick since my last weigh-in, I'm attributing this to the normal daily variations that everyone experiences. Given my consistent workouts and moderate, healthy eating, I'm confident that my overall weight trend is still moving downwards. As I close out the first week of this journey, it's clear that while there are fluctuatio...

Day 5 Update: Nighttime Hunger and Dietary Observations

Last night presented a familiar challenge; I woke up in the middle of the night feeling quite hungry. It appears that nighttime is when my hunger is most pronounced and my self-control at its weakest. This heightened sense of hunger is likely a side effect of another medication I take before bedtime. To satiate this midnight craving, I had a pita bread with hummus, which helped me fall back to sleep. Upon waking in the morning, my breakfast was modest – coffee and a small piece of bread with peanut butter. Remarkably, this light breakfast sufficed until 3 PM, and even at this point, I haven't experienced any significant hunger pangs. Another observation worth noting is my lack of strong gastrointestinal reactions to spicy, rich, or sugary foods. This is a relief, especially considering that other participants have reported such issues. However, today I am experiencing constipation, which is unusual for me as my usual diet tends to keep me regular. I suspect this could be either a s...

Day 4 Update: Steady Progress

Last night, my sleep was fairly good, and notably, I didn't wake up to eat, which marks a change from the previous nights. My breakfast was light, consisting of yogurt and oats. The weigh-in this morning showed further weight loss, with my scale reading 96.4 kg (212 lbs). It's becoming increasingly clear that my appetite remains limited and is easily satisfied, continuing the trend from the previous days. Today's physical activities included a brisk run after taking my dog for a walk. The weather was pleasant during the walk, but it took a dramatic turn just as I started my run. I found myself caught in a sudden spell of freezing rain and light hail. The inclement weather, rather unexpectedly, served as a motivator to maintain a decent pace, as slowing down in the cold was less than appealing. However, after completing the run and during my stretching routine, I experienced a spell of dizziness, similar to the previous day. This again could be attributed to low blood sugar....

Day 3 Recap: Noticeable Changes and New Experiences

Last night was another instance of peaceful sleep, contributing positively to my overall well-being. However, a slight irregularity was observed in my bowel movement, which was looser than usual but thankfully didn't escalate to diarrhea or cause any further inconvenience throughout the day. An exciting development was my morning weigh-in: I registered 97.7 kg (215 pounds). This shows a significant drop from my initial weight. While this could be attributed to normal weekly weight fluctuations, it's an encouraging sign nonetheless. My physical activity for the day included a half-hour jog to the football field, followed by an hour of playing football. The session was of low intensity but surprisingly tiring. A unique experience occurred during the exercise – a brief moment of dizziness, possibly due to low blood sugar, something I haven't encountered before during physical activities. A continued and remarkable observation is the persistent loss of appetite. Making decision...

Day 2 Diary: A Quiet Day on the Wegovy Trial

Day 2 Diary: A Quiet Day on the Wegovy Trial Today was relatively unremarkable in the grand scheme of things. I took a break from my usual exercise routine, allowing my body some rest. Interestingly, the diminished appetite I noted yesterday persisted throughout today as well. It seems to be a consistent experience so far. However, similar to the previous night, I found myself waking up feeling quite hungry. During these midnight hours, I ended up consuming a considerable amount of food, which isn't uncommon for me. On a positive note, I haven't experienced any noticeable side effects. I'm aware that other participants have reported issues like sulfur burps or gastrointestinal discomfort, but so far, I've been fortunate to avoid these common side effects mentioned in online forums. It's still early days in this trial, and I'm keen to observe how my body continues to respond to this regimen, whether it's the actual medication or a placebo.

Day 1 Here we go

Day 1 Reflections Yesterday marked the beginning of a new regimen for me. I was advised to abstain from eating post-midnight prior to each weekly injection, as part of the routine includes blood tests. Consequently, my day commenced on an empty stomach. The injection was administered around 11 AM, and initially, I noticed no discernible changes. Lunch was a usual affair – a sandwich. Ordinarily, by dinner time around 5 PM, hunger pangs would be a familiar sensation. However, an unusual lack of appetite greeted me as I began dinner preparations, even with the temptation of leftover birthday cake in the kitchen – a snack I usually can't resist. Despite cooking my usual dinner, my portion size was notably reduced – I served myself only half of my typical amount. Surprisingly, this smaller portion left me feeling content, leading me to store away the leftovers without a hint of further craving. The absence of the urge to continue eating was a new experience for me. My evening included ...

Weigh to go with Wegovy

Embarking on the Wegovy Journey: A Six-Month Chronicle I've embarked on a fascinating medical journey as a participant in a six-month clinical trial for Wegovy, a medication being studied for its effects and potential side effects. This trial includes a control group, who will not receive the actual medication, and another group that will be administered Wegovy. My group allocation remains a mystery to me, and it will stay that way until the study concludes. Prior to the trial, I underwent a series of preliminary tests and meetings to confirm my eligibility. My updates here will primarily focus on my personal experiences during this trial, rather than the detailed aspects of the medical study itself. The protocol involves weekly injections at the medical facility, conducted by the trial's professionals. There's confidence in the uninterrupted supply of the medication. My journey begins with a starting dosage of 0.25, which will be adjusted monthly depending on the presence ...

Day 6 Reflection: Adjustments and Challenges

Image
Today marked a shift in my physical condition - the constipation I experienced earlier has resolved, which is a relief. My appetite continues to remain altered with no significant changes from the past few days. It's still noticeably reduced compared to my pre-trial norm. In terms of exercise, I ventured back into weight lifting for the first time since the onset of the Wegovy trial. There's an awareness on my part that muscle mass might decrease over the next six months, but my aim is to maintain as much strength as possible. Post-workout, I felt particularly exhausted, a contrast to my usual post-exercise state. The challenge of consuming sufficient protein became evident, as my reduced appetite made it tough to eat enough. Even with a conscious effort to increase my intake at dinner, I found that my appetite was significantly curtailed, leading to me consuming roughly half of what I usually would. Sleep was elusive last night. I struggled to fall asleep and eventually got up...
