Day 34 Update: A Journey of Subtle Shifts and Major Milestones

It's been a quiet few days on the blog front, and honestly, it's because life on this treatment has settled into a new kind of normal. A month into taking this medication, and it's like my body has adapted so seamlessly that there aren't daily revelations to share. My calorie intake is down, thanks to the medication, but other than that, life marches on pretty much as usual.

Hydration Hurdles

However, not everything is business as usual. A new challenge has cropped up, and it's all about hydration—or the lack thereof. Previously, drinking water was a response to thirst, simple as that. But now, since the dose was upped to 0.5, I've been waking up in the night, mouth dry as a desert, desperate for a drink. And it's not just a nighttime issue; I'm feeling parched during the day too, though it's more manageable. I reckon it's a mix of eating less (so fewer fluids from food) and the medication dialing down not just my hunger but my thirst too.

Aside from this thirsty business, I'm side-effect free. The medication has taken my appetite down another notch, and I find myself having to remember to eat enough, especially with all the exercise I'm doing. My body needs the fuel, even if my brain isn't sending the usual hunger signals.

Today's Triumph: Half Marathon Happiness

Now, onto the highlight of today—and honestly, a highlight of this whole journey so far. I've had this goal, a sort of fitness milestone, to run a half marathon in under two hours. It was a target for the end of summer, but lately, my runs have felt different; my heart rate's been steadier, and I've felt stronger. So, on a whim, I decided today was the day to give it a shot. No breakfast, no lunch, just me and the treadmill.

And you know what? It wasn't just doable; it was almost comfortable. I hit that pace of 5:40 per km without feeling like I was pushing my limits too hard, and crossing that finish line felt like a breakthrough. No, it's probably not what a dietitian or a personal trainer would recommend—jumping into a half marathon on an empty stomach—but it worked for me. Sure, there's a bit of muscle soreness, but nothing I can't handle.

This evening's plan? Eat. I've got to make up for all those calories burned, even if I'm not feeling the usual hunger cues. This journey's taught me a lot about listening to my body, even when it's whispering instead of shouting.

So, there you have it: life on medication is a blend of routine, new challenges, and surprising achievements. And I'm here for all of it.
